Northern Engineering Industries (NEI) was a Newcastle-based manufacturing group offering in the 1970s & 80s direct competition to GEC in the UK-based design and manufacture of power stations. The major players within NEI for this strand of its business were Clarke Chapman for the steam raising plant, Parsons for the turbines and Reyrolles for the switchgear.
Clarkie’s, after some preliminary searches, commissioned ESAB AB of Sweden to design and supply a machine to weld the platens below…
